Day 1    Arrival Yangon – Golden Rock

Welcome to Yangon! Your guide and driver will greet you at the airport for the start of your Introductory Myanmar tour. Depart for the Golden Rock (Kyaikhtiyo), a beautiful drive through the countryside and small towns. Upon reaching the base of the mountain you will say goodbye to your driver and continue up the mountain by local truck. This 45-minute drive is a memorable one: the open-aired truck is filled with local pilgrims and you will sway on the benches together as the truck winds its way up the mountain. The last stretch of the journey to Golden Rock is on foot, a walk of around 1-hour. Your efforts are rewarded when you see the Golden Rock for the first time. This gold-covered boulder sits perched on the edge of a cliff and, according to legend, is balanced on the hairs of the Buddha. Walk around the pagoda platform and see local worshippers gathered to pray or placing delicate pieces of gold leaf on the boulder. Then continue on foot to your hotel for check in. (Meals: none)

Day 2    Golden Rock – Bago – Yangon

There is time this morning, should you wish, to return to the Golden Rock to see it in the early morning light. Then start the journey back down to the base camp on foot followed by another drive in the open-air truck. Your driver will be waiting for you at the base and you will start the drive to Bago. You will spend the day exploring Bago’s many sights such as Shwemawdaw Pagoda, the tallest pagoda in Myanmar, and Kyaikpun Pagoda which has four massive seated Buddha Images. Return to Yangon in the late afternoon and stop at your hotel to check in and for a chance to freshen up. Later this afternoon, transfer to the famous Shwedagon Pagoda where you will explore the vast pagoda platform with your guide, stopping at various shrines and Buddha images where locals gather to pray. Then sit and watch the sun cast its last rays on this beautiful 99-metre gilded stupa. (Meals: Breakfast)


Day 3    Yangon- Bagan

The third day of your Myanmar tour takes you to Bagan, Myanmar, where more than 2000 religious monuments are scattered around a riverside plane. You will first visit a colorful market where locals come to buy and sell fresh produce and other items. Then travel to some of the most famous pagodas such as Htilominlo, Shwezigon, Dhamayangyi and Ananda. Your knowledgeable guide will provide you with historical, architectural and cultural information about these monuments. You will also have time to visit a lacquerware workshops to see the skilled craftsmen create beautiful bowls, plates and other items. In the early evening, travel to an elevated temple or viewpoint to capture the sunset over Bagan. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 4    Bagan – Mandalay

Today you will fly to Mandalay, the country’s last royal capital. You will start sightseeing directly after landing starting with a drive to Amarapura, another former capital. This charming town is known for its high quality hand-woven fabrics and you will have a chance to visit one of the weaving workshops to learn more about this process. Then visit U Bein Bridge, the world’s longest teak bridge which links the villages on either side of Thaungthanman Lake. Continue to the city center where you will visit workshops making crafts using traditional techniques that date back hundreds of years. Watch the skilled workers as they pound gold leaf, weave intricate tapestries and carve beautiful Buddha images from blocks of marble. You will be dropped off at your hotel at the end of the day. Day 5    Mandalay – Mingun – Mandalay

Awake early morning, before the sun comes up, and visit Mahamuni Buddha image, one of the country’s most sacred sites. Local Buddhists worshippers have covered the image in so much gold leaf that it has taken on a lumpy appearance. Every day before dawn, local worshippers gather here to wash the face of the Buddha image, an intriguing ritual to witness. After enjoying this ceremony return to the hotel for breakfast then onwards to the boat jetty. Take a private boat trip across the Irrawaddy River to the town of Mingun, where King Bodawpaya built several impressive monuments in the late 18th century. Explore the white-washed Myatheindan pagoda, see the world’s largest un-cracked ringing bell and view the massive brick Mingun Pagoda. Return by boat to the Mandalay city center and Shwe Nandaw Kyaung, an impressive teak building that is the only structure remaining from the city’s Royal Palace. Continue to nearby Kuthodaw Pagoda where hundreds of marble slabs are engraved with Buddhist scripture, earning it the title as ‘World’s Largest Book’. Should you wish, you can visit the top of Mandalay Hill at sunset for panoramic views over the city and the Irrawaddy River. (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 6     Mandalay – Heho – Inle Lake

This morning you will take a domestic flight to Heho, in the center Myanmar’s vast Shan State. You will then drive around 1 hour to the town of Nyaung Shwe to board a private, long-tail motorboat for a full day excursion on Inle Lake. Pass by floating gardens and villages built on stilts as you cruise along the lake’s calm waters. Visit a workshop weaving beautiful fabrics made from the stems of lotus flowers and stop at the famous Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda to see the 5 holy Buddha images housed there. Your guide will also take you for a short walk through a local village so that you can learn about the lives of the lake’s residents. In the late afternoon you will be dropped at your hotel on the lake or in town. (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 7    Inle Lake- Heho- Yangon- Departure

Transfer to the Heho airport this morning for the return flight to Yangon. In Yangon, a car and driver will be at your disposal for additional sightseeing or shopping before going to the international airport to check in for your onward flight. (Meals: Breakfast)
