 Tour Code:   TWT-001

Day 01 Arrival Yangon

Welcome to Myanmar! Your local guide and driver will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel for check in. Depending on your arrival time there may be an opportunity for a downtown walking tour to see the historic colonial buildings of Yangon and the glittering Sule Pagoda. We will then continue to the massive reclining Buddha image at Chaukhtatgyi Pagoda and learn about Buddhsim’s role in Myanmar society. Late this afternoon we will arrive at Shwedgaon Pagoda, Myanmar’s holiest site. Ascend to the pagoda’s base and walk around the platform, staring in awe at the 99-metre gilded stupa. You will be joined at the pagoda by local worshippers who come nightly to meditate and pray at the base of Shwedagon. After this unforgettable visit, your guide will drop you off at your hotel. (Meals: none)

Day 02 Yangon – Thanlyin – Yangon

Today you will take a full day excursion to Thanlyin, also known as Syriam. This town, located 1 hour from Yangon, was a prominent port city during the Mon Dynasty. These days Thanlyin is still a popular trading town but retains the sleepy atmosphere of the countryside. Upon arrival you will first visit the morning market to explore the stalls of fresh produce and seafood. Continue to Kyeik Khauk Pagoda located outside the city center. This pagoda was built to resemble Shwedagon and in the adjacent cemetery is the grave of the former King of Taungoo. You will then head to Kyauk Maw Win Pagoda, also known as Ye Le Paya, located on a small island in the middle of the river where you can feed the giant fish who swim around the pagoda. Return to Yangon and, if there is time, visit Bogyoke Market (Note: Closed Mondays and public holidays). Also known as ‘Scott’s Market’ this downtown landmark is filled with stalls selling local handicrafts such as lacquerware, weaving and other items. When you are finished shopping you will transfer to nearby Chinatown to see the colourful Chinese temples and lively street market. Then return to your hotel for the evening. (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 03 Yangon Departure

Today you will be transferred to Yangon’s International Airport for your departure flight. Should time allow, you may wish to take an extra half day excursion to Dhala, a charming riverside town located across the Yangon River. You will travel by pedal-powered trishaw to explore the quiet streets of this rural area and learn about the ways of life of the town’s residents. (Meals: Breakfast)
