Day 1    Arrival Yangon – Golden Rock

Welcome to Yangon! Your guide and driver will greet you at the airport for the start of your Introductory Myanmar tour. Depart for the Golden Rock (Kyaikhtiyo), a beautiful drive through the countryside and small towns. Upon reaching the base of the mountain you will say goodbye to your driver and continue up the mountain by local truck. This 45-minute drive is a memorable one: the open-aired truck is filled with local pilgrims and you will sway on the benches together as the truck winds its way up the mountain. The last stretch of the journey to Golden Rock is on foot, a walk of around 1-hour. Your efforts are rewarded when you see the Golden Rock for the first time. This gold-covered boulder sits perched on the edge of a cliff and, according to legend, is balanced on the hairs of the Buddha. Walk around the pagoda platform and see local worshippers gathered to pray or placing delicate pieces of gold leaf on the boulder. Then continue on foot to your hotel for check in. (Meals: none)

Day 2    Golden Rock- Bago – Yangon

There is time this morning, should you wish, to return to the Golden Rock to see it in the early morning light. Then start the journey back down to the base camp on foot followed by another drive in the open-air truck. Your driver will be waiting for you at the base and you will start the drive to Bago. You will spend the day exploring Bago’s many sights such as Shwemawdaw Pagoda, the tallest pagoda in Myanmar, and Kyaikpun Pagoda which has four massive seated Buddha Images. Return to Yangon in the late afternoon stopping, if you wish, at the Allied War cemetery where thousands of fallen soldiers from Myanmar, England, Australia and other countries were laid to rest.

Upon reaching the city you will be dropped off at your hotel for check-in. (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 3     Yangon – Thanlyn (Syriam) – Yangon

Today you will take a full day excursion to Thanlyin, also known as Syriam. This town, located 1 hour from Yangon, was a prominent port city during the Mon Dynasty. These days Thanlyin is still a popular trading town but retains the sleepy atmosphere of the countryside. Upon arrival you will first visit the morning market to explore the stalls of fresh produce and seafood. Continue to Kyeik Khauk Pagoda located outside the city center. This pagoda was built to resemble Shwedagon and in the adjacent cemetery is the grave of the former King of Taungoo. You will then head to Kyauk Maw Win Pagoda, also known as Ye Le Paya, located on a small island in the middle of the river where you can feed the giant fish who swim around the pagoda. Return to Yangon and, if there is time, visit Bogyoke Market (Note: Closed Mondays and public holidays). Also known as ‘Scott’s Market’ this downtown landmark is filled with stalls selling local handicrafts such as lacquerware, weaving and other items. When you are finished shopping you will transfer to nearby Chinatown to see the colourful Chinese temples and lively street market. Then return to your hotel for the evening. (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 04 Yangon Departure

Today you will be transferred to Yangon’s International Airport for your departure flight. (Meals: Breakfast)
