Day 1    Sightseeing Yangon

Welcome to Myanmar! Your local guide and driver will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel for check in. You will be introduced to Myanmar culture and traditions with your first visit to Botahtaung Pagoda, a glittering riverside stupa that is always busy with worshippers. Then continue to the massive reclining Buddha image at Chaukhtatgyi Pagoda and learn about Buddhsim’s role in Myanmar society. Late this afternoon, arrive at Shwedgaon Pagoda, Myanmar’s holiest site. Ascend to the pagoda’s base and walk around the platform, staring in awe at the 99-metre gilded stupa. You will be joined at the pagoda by local worshippers who come nightly to meditate and pray at the base of Shwedagon. After this unforgettable visit, your guide will drop you off at your hotel. Day 2    Flight to Bagan

An early morning flight takes you to Bagan, Myanmar, where more than 2000 religious monuments are scattered around a riverside plane. You will first visit a colorful market where locals come to buy and sell fresh produce and other items. Then travel to some of the most famous pagodas such as Htilominlo, Shwezigon, Dhamayangyi and Ananda. Your knowledgeable guide will provide you with historical, architectural and cultural information about these monuments. You will also have time to visit a lacquerware workshops to see the skilled craftsmen create beautiful bowls, plates and other items. In the early evening, travel to an elevated temple or viewpoint to capture the sunset over Bagan. (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 3    Flight to Mandalay

Morning, breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport for the flight to Mandalay. Upon arrival, drive to Amarapura (01:00 hour), an ancient capital of Myanmar, visit U Bein bridge, observe the life of over 1000 monks at Mahagandaryon Monastery & silk weaving factory. Drive to Mandalay and visit traditional handicraft workshops such as, marble carving, gold leaves beating. Check in at the hotel and leisure. Overnight in Mandalay.

 

Travel to Mandalay, the country’s last royal capital. You will start sightseeing directly after landing at the airport starting with a drive to Amarapura, another former capital. This charming town is known for its high quality hand-woven fabrics and you will have a chance to visit one of the weaving workshops to learn more about this process. Then visit U Bein Bridge, the world’s longest teak bridge which links the villages on either side of Thaungthanman Lake. Continue to the city center where you will visit workshops making crafts using traditional techniques that date back hundreds of years. Watch the skilled workers as they pound gold leaf, weave intricate tapestries and carve beautiful Buddha images from blocks of marble. You will be dropped off at your hotel at the end of the day. Day 4    Mandalay- Mingun – Mandalay

Awake early morning, before the sun comes up, and visit Mahamuni Buddha image, one of the country’s most sacred sites. Local Buddhists worshippers have covered the image in so much gold leaf that it has taken on a lumpy appearance. Every day before dawn, local worshippers gather here to wash the face of the Buddha image, an intriguing ritual to witness. After enjoying this ceremony return to the hotel for breakfast then onwards to the boat jetty. Take a private boat trip across the Irrawaddy River to the town of Mingun, where King Bodawpaya built several impressive monuments in the late 18th century. Explore the white-washed Myatheindan pagoda, see the world’s largest un-cracked ringing bell and view the massive brick Mingun Pagoda. Return by boat to the Mandalay city center and Shwe Nandaw Kyaung, an impressive teak building that is the only structure remaining from the city’s Royal Palace. Continue to nearby Kuthodaw Pagoda where hundreds of marble slabs are engraved with Buddhist scripture, earning it the title as ‘World’s Largest Book’. Should you wish, you can visit the top of Mandalay Hill at sunset for panoramic views over the city and the Irrawaddy River. (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 5     Mandalay – Heho – Pindaya – Kalaw

On day 5 of your Myanmar tour you will fly to the Shan State, the country’s largest region and one of its most beautiful. Upon landing at Heho airport, take a scenic 2-hour drive to Pindaya. Visit the Pindaya Caves, a massive limestone cavern filled with thousands of Buddha images, and a workshop where skilled craftsmen make umbrellas from all-natural ingredients. Then continue through the Shan Hills to the town of Kalaw, a former British hill station. After checking in you will take an orientation tour of this charming town and visit a unique bamboo Buddha image as well as the historic train station. (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 6      Kalaw – Inle Lake

Depending on the schedule, you may have a chance to see Kalaw’s 5-day market where residents of the surrounding villages and hill tribes gather on the streets to buy and sell fresh produce. You will then depart for Inle Lake, driving to the town of Nyaung Shwe at the north end of the lake. Board a private, long-tail motorboat for an excursion, passing by floating gardens and villages built on stilts as you cruise along the lake’s calm waters. Visit a workshop weaving beautiful fabrics made from the stems of lotus flowers and stop at the famous Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda to see the 5 holy Buddha images housed there. Your guide will also take you for a short walk through a local village so that you can learn about the lives of the lake’s residents. In the late afternoon you will be dropped at your hotel on the lake or in town. (Meals: Breakfast)

 

Day7      Inle Lake- Heho – Yangon – Departure

Transfer to the Heho airport this morning for the return flight to Yangon. In Yangon, a car and driver will be at your disposal for additional sightseeing or shopping before going to the international airport to check in for your onward flight. (Meals: Breakfast)
